Week 12 Reading Notes: Nursery Rhymes pt A

I absolutely loved reading the riddle section of the nursery rhymes. This is one of my favorite readings from the entire semester! As a kid, I used to always make my parents tell me riddles because I thought they were so fun to figure out. I hadn't heard most of these riddles before and so it was fun to read them and try to figure them out before I saw the answers. Although I loved this reading, it was somewhat hard to take notes about since it was more like a list of jokes instead of an actual story. I decided to stick with my normal note-taking strategy and just jot down the main idea of each riddle as well as some details about my favorites.

  • the first riddle made it seem like the thing the main character got was a gift of some sort until we read the third line. Then, when the author said that they brought it home because they couldn't help it, it gave readers an understanding that it was something that happened to the person. I would have never guessed the right answer, but it made sense once I found out.
  • I also really liked the riddle about the dog named Take. If I wouldn't have seen the answer as I was scrolling down the page, I think I might have been able to figure this one out. I liked the play on words, and I also really liked how the author used dialogue in this riddle.
  • The next riddle about the white, soft skin and the golden apple that appears was very clever. Because the language is so different from the way we speak nowadays, it's really hard to solve these, but they make total sense after reading the answers.
  • The last one that I really liked was the riddle about the bed. "Employed while others sleep" was a very clever line and led me to think that the answer to this was a bed.
The first riddle- the woman with the thorn.

Introduction to Pip

Hi friends! Welcome to my blog :) My name is Piper, but most of my friends call me a slew of nicknames like Pipe, Pipey, Pipes, Pipeydoodle, Pip (hence Pip Pip Hurray)... you get the point! I am a student at the University of Oklahoma, and I am currently finishing up my last semester before I graduate (don't remind me, I'm getting emotional about it). I am from Tulsa, OK originally, and I would love to go back someday, but my future is pretty up in the air right now so I am not sure when that might be. I am studying Health and Exercise Science with an emphasis on Pre-Occupational Therapy, and the goal would be to start OT school in Summer 2020. I'm super passionate about people and forming relationships, which is what drew me to OT. I love the idea of working in a profession that allows me to make new friends, love others, and solve problems all at the same time. As well as my many nicknames, my friends call me an old lady at heart. I love to read (most recent book- Where...

Week 9 Story: Justice is Served

Justice is Served The husband and wife were so in love. They were ever thankful to the doctor for introducing them to each other. If it weren't for him, they would have never found each other. But that's beside the point. What they were really interested in was the money. They loved each other but they were both greedy. They thought they could never be ultimately happy unless they were rich. They both had worked for the doctor at one point or another, and so they knew that he had more money than he knew what to do with! The husband and wife were talking one night about their lack of income and how neither of them held jobs. They decided that their best bet would be to deceive the doctor and take his money! The next day, the husband went to the doctor and asked if he could borrow some money to help his wife, who was sick. The doctor willingly gave the husband money, because he trusted him and wanted the wife to get better. A week later, the husband returned, claiming his wif...
